Hydrocarbons

Saturdated Hydrocarbons: are hydrocarbons in which each carbon atom
forms 4 single covalent bonds with other atoms

-Only Single Bonds
-Known as Alkanes

Cycloalkanes
-Carbon atoms in a ring
-Named with cyclo- prefix

Nomenclature
-Straight chain= prefix -ane
-Cyclo= cyclo-prefix-ane
-Radicals= prefix-yl radical

Branched-Chain Nomenclature
1. Name longest continuous chain
2.ID and name alkyl groups (the branches)
- alphabetical order
- use prefixes if multipule ( di/tri/ etc.)
3.Assign position numbers to each branch
